FUE Hair Transplant in Hyderabad

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is one of the two main ways of taking hair for a transplant. Individual follicular units are removed one at a time from the donor area and transplanted into the bald area.

How FUE is done

FUE is done under local anaesthesia. The surgeon uses a small, circular, hand-held instrument called a punch to remove individual follicular units from the donor area, usually the back and sides of the scalp, where hair resists balding. Grafts can also be taken from the beard and other parts of the body, such as the chest.

The extracted follicular units are then carefully transplanted into the bald (recipient) area. FUE is also an alternative to FUT when the scalp is too tight for a strip to be removed.

Advantages and limitations of FUE

Advantages

  • Leaves small, scattered scars rather than a single linear scar.
  • Usually involves less postoperative discomfort and healing time than FUT.
  • Avoids the long incision and sutures associated with strip harvesting.
  • Allows selective extraction of suitable follicles from different parts of the donor area.
  • Can be used to extract beard and other body hair in selected patients.

Limitations

  • Excessive extraction can cause visible thinning and permanent donor damage.
  • Poor extraction angles or technique can damage follicles and reduce graft yield.
  • Individual graft extraction can make the procedure labor-intensive especially in large sessions.
  • Small punch scars may become visible with very short hairstyles or in some skin types.

FUE or FUT?

FUT removes a thin strip of scalp and allows more grafts in one session, while FUE takes grafts one at a time and avoids a linear scar; the right choice depends on your donor area and the size of the bald area.

Who performs FUE at the centre

The success of FUE depends on the skill and experience of the surgeon and the technicians. At the centre, FUE is performed by Dr.Ram, who holds ABHRS certification (Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, certified 2025. He has experience of 10 yrs working under by Dr. Madhu, who holds ABHRS certification (Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, certified 2009, re-certified 2019). The centre has a team of 7 doctors and 15 surgical assistants were trained by Dr. Madhu.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for FUE Hair Transplant?

An ideal candidate for FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) has stable hair loss, adequate donor hair density, and a healthy scalp. FUE is suitable for people who prefer to avoid a linear scar and want to wear shorter hairstyles. Candidates should also have realistic expectations and enough safe donor grafts to achieve their desired coverage. A qualified hair transplant surgeon should assess donor density, hair loss progression, and scalp laxity before recommending the procedure.

How Many Grafts Do I Need for a Hair Transplant?

The number of hair transplant grafts you need depends on the extent of hair loss, the size of the thinning area, your desired hair density, and donor hair availability. Mild hair loss may require around 1,000–1,500 grafts, while extensive baldness may need 3,000–5,000 or more. A hair transplant surgeon can estimate the required graft count after assessing your scalp and donor area.

What Is the Step-by-Step Procedure of a Hair Transplant?

The hair transplant procedure begins with scalp assessment, hairline design, and local anesthesia. Hair follicles are extracted from the donor area using FUE, carefully sorted, and preserved. The ultra-refined follicular technique focuses on precise graft handling and natural hairline detailing. Tiny recipient sites are created at suitable angles, and grafts are implanted carefully. Finally, post-procedure care instructions and follow-up visits help monitor healing and hair growth.

What Is the Recovery Process After FUE Hair Transplant?

After FUE hair transplant, mild redness, swelling, scabbing, and tenderness are common during the first few days. Tiny scabs usually heal within 7 days, and most patients can resume routine activities within 3 days. Transplanted hair often sheds during the initial 4 weeks before new growth begins around 3–4 months. Visible improvement typically develops over 6–8 months.

What Are the Risks and Side Effects of FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE hair transplant is generally safe when performed by a qualified surgeon, but temporary side effects can occur. These include swelling, redness, scabbing, mild pain, numbness, small pimples around the treated area and temporary shock loss. Following proper aftercare and choosing an experienced surgeon helps minimize these risks.

What Is the Cost of FUE Hair Transplant?

The cost of an FUE hair transplant depends on the number of grafts required, the clinic, and the surgeon’s expertise. At an estimated rate of ₹80 per graft, a 2,000-graft procedure would cost around ₹1,60,000. Use a hair transplant graft calculator to get a rough cost estimate based on your required graft count. The final price may vary depending on your treatment plan.
