Hair Transplant in Hyderabad

A hair transplant moves live hair roots from the back or sides of your scalp, where hair resists balding, to the bald area. The transplanted roots keep behaving like the hair they were taken from.

How a hair transplant works

Hair roots are taken from the donor area and placed in the bald area, called the recipient area. The roots used must be resistant to balding; these are usually found on the back and sides of the scalp.

Once the transplanted hair has grown, it can be cut, trimmed, shampooed or dyed like the rest of your hair, and it grows back even after the head is completely shaved.

At Dr. Madhu’s, all hair transplants are done using the most latest & advanced Ultra-Refined Follicular Unit Technique. Grafts are precisely segregated and dissected under sophisticated high-end stereo and Mantis microscopes, then stored in a high-quality PRP solution prepared using the Remi PRP Ultra, with precise control over RPM/RCF, acceleration, deceleration, time, and temperature. This meticulous process helps maximize graft survival, preserve graft quality, and achieve superior results.

Graft density and dense packing

How full the result looks depends on how many grafts are placed in each square centimetre: the more grafts transplanted into the bald area, the denser it appears. At the centre, grafts are placed at 30 to 35 grafts per square centimetre; this can vary with the extent of balding and the health of the scalp and skin.

Placing a large number of grafts close together is called dense packing. It needs a high level of technical skill.

Session sizes: mega, super mega and giga

When a large area needs to be covered, grafts are transplanted in sessions, and the size of a session is named by the number of grafts placed in it:

SessionNumber of grafts
Mega session2,500 grafts
Super mega session4,000 grafts
Giga sessionMore than 4,000 grafts

Large sessions succeed only with a well-trained team of doctors and surgical assistants. More on mega, super mega and giga sessions.

FUT and FUE: two ways to take grafts

Grafts, called follicular units, can be taken from the donor area in two ways. In FUT, a thin strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed from the back of the head and divided into grafts under microscopes; it allows more grafts in one session.

In FUE, grafts are taken one at a time with a small punch, which avoids a linear scar. Both methods can be combined to obtain more grafts. Which one suits you depends on your donor area and the size of the bald area.

Who is good candidate for FUE?

FUE is considered as an ultimate method of hair transplantation in which each and every graft is individually extracted from the donor zone. FUE method stands best for people with wide safe donor zone and good graft quality, thickness. It might not yield more and good quality of grafts especially with limited safe donor zone, thin hair quality and people with features of progressive balding. In such cases choosing FUT and Combination method might be an ideal option.

How bad is FUT/Strip scar?

FUT doesn’t always means bad scars, with time there have been lot of advances type of suturing techniques, type of suturing methods and types of sutures which significantly reduced scaring. Scaring is healing mechanism of body. This healing varies from person to person based on genes, hydration, skin collagen, diet and lifestyle. The scars which used to 1 cm wide previously have come down to 2- 3mm at max these days. Combination method has been proven to reduce FUT scaring to almost a negligible level.

How Many Grafts Do I Need for a Hair Transplant?

The number of hair transplant grafts you need depends on the extent of hair loss, the size of the thinning area, your desired hair density, and donor hair availability. Mild hair loss may require around 1,000–1,500 grafts, while extensive baldness may need 3,000–5,000 or more. A hair transplant surgeon can estimate the required graft count after assessing your scalp and donor area.

Which Is the Best Method of Hair Transplant?

No single hair transplant method is superior for everyone. The right technique depends on your hair loss pattern, donor density, scalp laxity, and the number of safe donor grafts available. Choosing the appropriate method helps maximize graft survival, achieve natural-looking results, and minimize donor area damage.

When Can I Get Back to Work After a Hair Transplant?

You can usually return to work from Day 1 if you work from home and feel comfortable. If you need to attend the office, Day 4 is a reasonable option for many people, depending on swelling, redness, and recovery. Follow your surgeon’s advice, especially if your job involves physical activity or sweating.

When Can I Travel After a Hair Transplant?

You can usually travel from Day 4 after a hair transplant, provided your recovery is normal and your surgeon approves. Follow your post-operative care instructions and avoid activities that may put pressure on or damage the transplanted grafts.

What Is the Cost of a Hair Transplant?

The cost of a hair transplant depends on the number of grafts required and the technique used. The approximate cost per graft is ₹60 for FUT, ₹80 for FUE, and ₹100 for beard or body hair transplantation. Use a hair transplant graft calculator to estimate your total cost based on your required graft count. The final price may vary depending on your treatment plan.

When Can I See Hair Transplant Results?

You may notice mild hair growth around the 4th month, while more noticeable results typically appear between 6 and 8 months. In rare cases, people with faster natural hair growth may see decent results as early as the 4th month. Hair growth varies from person to person.

What Are the Side Effects of a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplant is generally a safe procedure when performed by a qualified surgeon. Common side effects include temporary face swelling, small pimples, mild numbness or changes in sensation, and temporary shock loss in the donor area during the initial days or weeks. Most side effects resolve with proper aftercare, but persistent pain, increasing redness, or signs of infection require medical attention.
